Edwin L. “Pete” Bernard passed away suddenly December 13, 2008 in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born in Perrysburg on March 14, 1928 to Martha and Ray Bernard. He graduated from the Perrysburg Schools, enlisted in the army in 1946, and was stationed in Japan. After returning home, he married Helen Schuster and they had four wonderful children. Pete graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He was employed by LOF Thermopane and Inmont, Inc. in Toledo.

He was a Perrysburg City Council member in the sixties and served as council president. Pete was also a member of the American Legion Post #28. In 1971, he and his family moved to Glens Falls, New York. He was employed by Decora, Inc. as Director of Manufacturing. After retirement, he returned to Perrysburg where he became a mediator for the Perrysburg Court System and for three years substituted in the Perrysburg School District. He enjoyed woodworking, oil painting, was a sports enthusiast and an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife Helen, children Debbe (Tom) Becker Knoxville, TN, Betsy (Peter) Schaf Perryburg, Bradley (Debbie) Bernard Rocky River, OH, and Peter J. Cincinnati, OH. The love he had for his seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren will be felt forever. He is also survived by siblings Roy, Sandy Rickenbacher, Donna Reichard, and Tom. Preceding him in death was his sister Charlotte Jones and brother Ron.

Services will be conducted at St. Rose Church, 215 E. Front St. in Perrysburg, Thursday, December 18 at 10:15. Friends will be received from 4-7 pm on Thursday at the Hawkesbridge Clubhouse. Arrangements are being handled by Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg, OH (419-874-3133).1
