The victim, 34-year-old Aleksandra Lancaster, of Colorado Springs, was a passenger in a 2006 Mazda that her husband, John Tracy Lancaster, 48, was driving north on 183 near Lometa, Texas just before 1 a.m. The Mazda swerved, and spun into the southbound lane where it was hit by a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The Pathfinder was driven by 41-year-old Richard Barto. Jennifer Barton, 42 and two children (ages 5 and 7) were also in the car. The Lancaster's car ended up on its side in a ditch, authorities said. Aleksandra Lancaster was not wearing a seat belt. She was pronounced dead at the scene at about 2:15 a.m. Monday. Her husband John was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Monday. Barto was also taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition. The two children are both in critical condition. |

| News/Obit | 3 November 2009 | KWTX.com Posted 3 Nov 2009 Early-Morning Accident Leaves One Dead, Five Injured An early-morning accident on a Central Texas highway left a woman dead and five people injured, two of them young children who were in critical condition Monday at a local hospital. LOMETA (November 03, 2009)-An early morning accident Monday near Lometa left a Colorado woman dead and her husband, two children and a Georgetown couple injured. A Lampasas Department of Public Safety dispatcher told News 10 the collision occurred just before 1:00 a.m. Monday on Highway 183, about four miles north of Lometa. Trooper Monte Carroll investigated the crash scene and reports that a 2006 Mazda was traveling northbound on US 183 when it swerved and spun into oncoming traffic, toward a southbound 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The Nissan struck the Mazda on the right rear side at highway speeds. Both vehicles came to a rest in the southbound roadside ditch, the Nissan landed on its passenger side. Aleksandra Lancaster, 34, of Colorado Springs, Colo. was a passenger in the Mazda and died in the collision; she was not wearing a seatbelt. Lampasas County Justice of the Peace Richard Lockett pronounced her dead at the scene at 2:17 a.m. Monday; her body was taken to Sneed funeral Chapel in Lampasas. The Mazda’s driver, John Tracy Lancaster, 48, of Colorado Springs, Colo. and two other passengers, 7-year-old Michael Lancaster and 5-year-old Julia Lancaster were all taken to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple. Early reports indicated the children were passengers in the Nissan at the time of the collision All three were listed in critical condition Monday. Both children were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision however the driver’s seatbelt was not worn. The driver of the Nissan, Richard Carl Barto, 41, of Georgetown was taken to Scott and White Medical Center in Temple where he was listed in stable condition Monday. The passenger of the Nissan, Jennifer Fuller Barto, 42, of Georgetown was taken to Rollins Brook Hospital in Lampasas where she was also listed Monday in stable condition. Both Richard Barto and Jennifer Barto were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. |
