Francis William Gruber , 65, born Feb. 7, 1934, in New York, N.Y., died June 9, 1999.

He's run the race, He's fought the fight, He's earned a ten and won the Gold.

Frank served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Frank retired from General Tire in 1985 as lab manager with 25 years service. He had worked for Mayfair Country Club for the last 10 years. These were the greatest times of his life. He loved being outdoors and working with Dave and Jeannie Springer, Jan, Pete, Steve, and many others.

Frank was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls, was past treasurer of Oak Hill United Presbyterian Church and North Hill Christian Church, and was an active member of Woodsmake Family Church in Ft. Myers. Frank was very active in the Southern District Shuffleboard Association as a tournament director. He was involved in the social activities programs at Woodsmake Winter Resort in Ft. Myers, Fla.

Preceded in death at the age of 10 by his dear mother, Helen Grill Gruber , he is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Nancy; children, Frank (Shelly) Gruber of Huntsville, Ala., John (Lori) Gruber of Poolesville, Md., James (Cecilia) Gruber of Akron, Jane (Mark) Hudkins of Uniontown; grandchildren, Jessica, Nicole, and Allison Gruber of Poolesville, Md., Laureen, Kathleen, and Bradford Gruber of Akron, Shana Hudkins of Uniontown; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Mary Carlton; sisters, Helen (Mel) Reedy of Hudson and Mary (Dave) Hineman of Akron.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. SATURDAY at the First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls, with Rev. Paul Beal officiating. The family will receive friends after the memorial service at church. Private inurnment at 10 a.m. SATURDAY at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Akron General Medical Center, Non-Profit Oncology Department, 400 Wabash Ave., Akron 44304-2463; or The Gifts & Memorial Fund, c/o First U.M.C. of Cuyahoga Falls, 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls 44221.
