LYLE, Wash. -- Emma Laverne Harrell died at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland on Oct. 17, 2004. She was born on Jan. 28, 1932, in Polson, to Elliott and Alice (Dupuis) Menzie. She grew up on the family farm in Pablo and attended schools in Ronan. Emma married Raymond Arthur Oren Harrell on Nov. 13, 1948, in Bigfork. They moved to Roseberg, OR, in January of 1949. In 1960, they moved to Beaverton until retiring to Lyle in 1985. She was a member of Flathead Indian Nation and St. Peter's Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, painting and reading. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Rudolph Menzie, James Menzie and Vi Crouch. She is survived by her husband, Ray (Lyle); four children, Sandy Golden (Beaverton), Linda Sifferman (Bend), Donna Brandt (Oregon City), and Leah Carpenter (Portland); a stepson, Dennis Harrell, and his wife, Sandra (Lynnwood, WA); seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Patsy Knutson (Polson) and Leah Shuemaker (Pablo); and numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Oct. 19 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Interment followed on Oct. 20 at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery.1

Emma Laverne Harrell died Oct. 17, 2004, at age 72.

Emma Laverne Menzie was born Jan. 28, 1932, in Polson, Mont. She was a homemaker who moved to Beaverton in 1954 and later lived in Lyle, Wash. She was an enrolled member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes . In 1948, she married Raymond.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Sandy Golden , Linda Sifferman, Donna Brandt and Leah Carpenter; stepson, Dennis ; sisters, Patsy Knutson and Leah Shuemaker; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Service held. Arrangements by Spencer, Libby & Powell in The Dalles.
