Note*   it is possible Madge and her sister were in Korea as part of the group from Whitley county who went to work in the Gold Mines incuding her uncle Joseph B. Lower who managed the mine. She may have met Howard there who was from Washington. They were in the Far East when war broke out and were taken prisoner by the Japanese. Madge spent 3 years in the camps in Manilla while Howard died on a Japanese transport ship.

89, of Franklin died yesterday in Franklin United Methodist Home.

The Columbia City native and former resident worked as a teacher in Columbia City for almost 30 years and was a prisoner of war in Manila for more than three years. She was the widow of Howard Allen, who died on a prisoner of war ship in 1943.

Surviving are her son, Gregory C. of Indianapolis; and three grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. Sunday in Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, where calling is noon to 2 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Columbia Township.
