Walter McConnell, 87, died Jan. 5.

He was born in Ashland, Ohio, and lived most of his life in Akron. He was a 50-year member of the First Baptist Church of Akron, a member of Cuyahoga Falls Lodge 735, a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of the Shrine and Tadmor Temple. He was manager for the Kroger Co. for many years and was later a supervisor for several markets for Betsy Ross Co.

He is survived by wife, Edna of Akron; daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Jean) Lehnerd of Grand Rapids, Mich., Mrs. James (Joyce) Brubaker of Pacific Palisades Calif., Mrs. James (Sue Ellen) LaCourse of Monroe, Conn.; stepsons, James Sharp Jr. and his wife, Pat, of Indiana; 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Raymond Bowerize and Mrs. Lawrence Brown, both of Greenwich, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Service will be held Friday, 10 a.m., at the Billow Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Dr. Randall A. Corkern officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home TODAY, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.; Masonic service at 7 p.m. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Akron, 1670 Shatto Ave., Akron 44313.
