ASHTABULA - Ronald L. Ulshafer, age 71, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, at his home, after a lengthy illness of 11 and a half years.

Ronald was born Jan. 3, 1936, in Weissport, Pa., the son of William and Evelyn Ulshafer. He graduated from Lehighton High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Education from East Stroudsburg University and earned his Masters from Ohio University. Ron made his home in Ashtabula for 48 years, taught in the Buckeye School District for 25 years, taught French at Kent State Ashtabula Branch and for 14 years worked at the Ashtabula Post Office.

He loved music, singing in church choirs and serving as a Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of the East Side Presbyterian Church and served on the session there. He also enjoyed reading, learning and playing board games and euchre. He had an outgoing personality and visited and corresponded with family and friends throughout his lifetime.

Ron most cherished spending time with his wife, four children and seven grandchildren, who loved him deeply and will miss him always. Ron was survived by his wife, Phyllis (Swinehart) Ulshafer of Ashtabula; his two daughters, Tracey (Scott) McIntyre of Etters, Pa., Terri (John) Samuelson of Ottawa, Canada; two sons, Thomas Ulshafer of Lexington, Ky. and Todd R. (Melissa) Ulshafer of Mentor; six grandchildren, Brooks and Connor McIntyre, Matthew, Kathryn and Anne Samuelson and Kyle and Emily Ulshafer; two sisters, Judy (Larry) Frable of Lancaster, Pa. and Darlene Ulshafer of Bethlehem, Pa.; two brothers, Roger (Pat) Ulshafer of Bethlehem, Pa. and Greg (Jan) Ulshafer of Northhampton, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at the East Side Presbyterian Church, 3440 Edgewood Dr., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Shane Nanney, officiating. Family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall of the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the East Side Presbyterian Church or to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 E. 185th St., Cleveland, Ohio 44119-1330.

The ASHTABULA HOME OF FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, is in charge of arrangements.
