Note*   Jared came to Muskingum in 1813 and settled in section 13 of Monroe township along the banks of Whire Eyes creek. His land borders Otsego and the Otsego Baptist cemetery where his son Barton is buried.

He was a member of the Otsego Baptist church and of Salem Baptist church before the Otsego church was established in 1844.

His son Jared was a respected doctor in Adamsville and also was a pioner of that community.

Born in East Haddam, Middlesex, Connecticut, his parents are reported to be Matthew Cone and Lydia Gates although another source has her as Abigail Shephard.

Jared's is buried with Hannah Cone who is listed as his consort which in those days was another term for wife or companion. She died in 1822 and in 1823 he was married to a woman named Elizabeth Shoft. She is listed as Eliza on her tombstone. It is possible this might be Eliza Ann Ross who is the more probably wife of his son Dr. Jared Cone.
