63, died Tuesday at his home. Born in Van Wert County, he was an Army veteran and retired in 1985 after 31 years at International Harvester. He also had been a farmer. Surviving are a daughter, Michelle M. Hill of Monroeville, Ind; two sons, Steven F. of Wren and Troy A. of Decatur, Ind.; a brother, Harold LaVaughn of Willshire; a sister, Barbara E. DeBolt of Fort Wayne; and a grandchild.

Services at 11 a.m. EDT (10 a.m. Fort Wayne time) Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Schumm, with calling an hour before services. Calling also from 2 to 8 p.m. (Fort Wayne time) Friday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur.

Burial at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Schumm. Memorials to the church's improvement fund.

Eugene F. Merkle, 63, of Wren, Ohio, an area farmer, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at home.

The Van Wert County native retired in 1985 from International Harvester after 31 years of service, was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Schumm, American Legion Adams Post 43 and was an Army veteran.

Surviving are a daughter, Michelle M. Hill of Monroeville, Ind.; sons Steven F. of Wren and Troy A. of Decatur, Ind.; a brother, Harold La Vaughn of Willshire; a sister, Barbara E. DeBolt of Fort Wayne; and one grandchild.

Services are 11 a.m. (Ohio time) Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Schumm, with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday (Indiana time) at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Ind. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Schumm.

Memorials are to the church's improvement fund.
