News/Obit* 1 June 2002  OHIO CITY -- Barbara E. DeBolt, 67, of Ohio City died unexpectedly at 3:43 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, in the emergency room of Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne, Ind., shortly after arrival. She was born Oct. 29, 1934, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Harold and Mildred (Giessler) Merkle. Mrs. DeBolt worked the switchboard at Lutheran Hospital for the past 10 years and formerly worked at Decatur Fairway Restaurant and Hall's Gas House in Fort Wayne. Survivors include: Daughter -- Kay (Rick) Steffey of Kodiak, Ala. Son -- Michael E. Johnson of Ohio City Brother -- Harold LaVaughn Merkle of rural Willshire Ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Merkle, and a son, Charles Richard Johnson Jr. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. (Ohio time) Thursday in Zion Lutheran Church, Schumm, the Rev. Robert Becker officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Schumm. Calling hours are 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. (Indiana time) Wednesday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church. BARBARA E. DeBOLT, 67, died Saturday at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. Born in Van Wert County, she worked on the switchboard at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, for 10 years. She also worked at the Decatur Fairway Restaurant and at Hall's Gas House in Fort Wayne. Surviving are a daughter, Kay Steffey of Kodiak, Alaska; a son, Michael E. Johnson of Ohio City; a brother, Harold LaVaughn Merkle of rural Willshire; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Charles Richard Johnson, Jr. Services at 11 a.m. EDT (10 a.m. Fort Wayne time) Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Schumm, with calling one hour before services. Calling also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. EDT (1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Fort Wayne time) Wednesday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Ind. Burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Schumm. Barbara E. DeBolt, 67, of Ohio City, Ohio, a member of Zion Lutheran Church, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

The Van Wert County, Ohio, native worked the switchboard at Lutheran Hospital for the past 10 years and had worked at Decatur Fairway Restaurant and Hall's Gas House. Surviving are her daughter, Kay Steffey of Kodiak, Ark.; a son, Michael E. Johnson of Ohio City; a brother, Harold LaVaughn Merkle of Willshire, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Richard Jr., and a brother. Services are 11 a.m. Ohio time Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Schumm, Ohio, with calling one hour before services.
