News/Obit* after 9 January 1915  MRS. CATHERINE GAUMER DEAD

An Aged And Well Known Woman
Passes Away After Year of Affliction and Suffering

Mrs. Catherine Gaumer died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Vensel, sr., in Adams township, Jan 7, 1915, of a complication of diseases due to old age. Her affliction has extended through several years during which time she has been not only a great sufferer but also a great charge to those who patiently cared for her.

Mrs. Gaumer was the daughter of Henry and Mary Bainter and was born February 13, 1827, in Monroe township, this county. She was the last survivor of a family of sixteen children.

Jan. 10, 1847, she was married to Solomon Gaumer, who departed this life Jan. 28, 1907. To this union were born two children, Charles N. Gaumer and Mary Elizabeth Vensel wife of J. W. Vensel, sr., of Adams township. Both survive her amd mourn her departure of a loving and devoted mother.

When in health Mrs. Gaumer was an active, hard-working woman, cheerfully laboring for the welfare of her family and ever ready to extend the hand of charity to those around her. She was a good neighbor and had the confidence and good will of those associated with her in the community in which she lived.

Mrs. Gaumer became a member of New Hope Lutheran church in early life and continued a worshiper at that place until the end of her long life. She was a firm believer in the teachings of the bible and found comfort in the precious promises it contains. Her daily walk showed her sincerity in her religious professions and gave her prominence among the worshipers of her church.

Besides the two children named she is survived by two grandchildren and one great grand-child.

Funeral services took place Saturday forenoon and were conducted by Rev. Ira R. Ladd at the New Hope Lutheran church. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at that place. H. E. Shirer had charge of the Burial.
