Katherine Jane Firestone
Passed away on November 4, 2009, after an extended illness. Jane was born at the home of her parents, Dr. Burrell Russell and Edna Fowles Russell, on Jan. 2, 1924, New Philadelphia, Ohio. She graduated from New Philadelphia High School and entered the School of Nursing at Mercy Hospital in Canton, Ohio, where she later graduated as a Registered Nurse. Jane met her future husband, Lt. Charles Firestone, II, U.S. Army Air Corps, while working at the hospital. He was home on leave from the war in Europe and was visiting his sister, hospitalized at Mercy, and Jane was one of his sister's nurses. They were married at war's end in 1945. Charles, known as Chas, eventually became a partner in the architectural firm of Firestone & Motter, Canton, Ohio. The couple were very active in community organizations, Jane in the Junior League of Canton, Canton Woman's Club, YWCA, and PEO, Chapter CX, Jane was interested in art history, enjoyed oil painting, and was especially fond of china painting. She and Chas thoroughly enjoyed their retirement years in the Pinehurst, North Carolina area.

Jane has been preceded in death by her husband, Chas and brother, Frederick N. Russell.

She is survived by her three daughters, Gayle Castaneda of Tucson, Arizona, Helen Greene (and her husband, Greg) of Louisville, Ohio, and Kathy Street (and her husband, Tom) of Louisville, Ohio; grandchildren, Risa (and her husband, Bob) Brown, Candee & Charles Castaneda, Greg & Courtney Greene, Richie, Chris ( and wife, Lindsey) and Janey Barkan; great granddaughter, Isabella Rosalee Brown; step-sister, Georgia Gwinner Berenhauser and stepbrother, Dr. Robert Gwinner; nieces and nephews, David (and wife Cynthia) and Joan Russell, Rick (and wife, Fran) Elder and Diane Morris.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 2009 in the Stier-Israel Funeral Home in Louisville, Ohio with Pastor Rick Brown officiating. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery, Canton. Donations in honor of Jane's life may be made to the charity of your choice.
