Note*   Census records state that Elizabeth was born in VA. Her son Winfield's death certificate gives her place of birth as Woodbury, Va. The 1880 census also lists her parents nativity as Virginia. Her obituary says she was born in Loudoun Co., VA and that she came to Muskingum Co., OH in 1814 with her sister. Who her sister is is unknown.

The 1880 census gives her age as 65 on Jun 18. The 1870 on Jun 20 gives her age as 56. It is presumed her birth was ca Jun 19 1815.

If Elizabeth was born in Loudoun Co., then the only Fields that was enumerated in the 1820 census with a daughter under 10 was John Fields who had three females under 10.

Burial* after 28 June 1898  Adamsville Baptist Cemetery, Adamsville, Muskingum Co., OH11
News/Obit* after 28 June 1898  DEATH OF ELIZA P. SHIRER

Mrs. Eliza P. SHIRER aged 83 years died last Tuesday about noon at the residence of her son W. S. SHIRER in the south part of town. She had been in very delicate health for a number of years but was able to be up and about the house until last month. Her death is due to diseases incident to old age. Eliza P. Fields was born 15 July 1815 in Loudoun County Virginia and at the age of fourteen removed to this county with her sister. In the year 1848 she was married to James M. SHIRER with whom she lived happily until he was removed by death in the year 1873. Of the three children born to them, two died while in service of their country, one being starved to death in Andersonville Prison and the other died of brain fever while returning to the war from a furlough to his home. The deceased was a Christian woman having connected with the church for over 60 years. The funeral took place Thursday forenoon from the family residence, the services being conducted by Rev. M. F. Rainsberger Pastor of the Adamsville M. E. Church. The remains were interred in the Adamsville Cemetery.
