Jerry Dale Shirar, 57, of Lafayette, died at 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at Home Hospital.

He was born on April 4, 1949, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Edith Hagan Shirar and the late Dale Shirar. He graduated from Coal Creek Central High School in New Richmond, and had lived in Crawfordsville and New Richmond before moving to Lafayette 15 years ago.

He married Emily Engledow on Nov. 1, 1980, in Linden, and she survives. He was a self-employed truck driver for 20 years, and he and his wife owned bars in New Richmond and Mellott.

Mr. Shirar enjoyed cars and NASCAR.

Surviving with his wife and his mother, who lives in New Richmond, are a son, J.D. Shirar of Crawfordsville; a stepson, Michael Camp (wife: Laura) of Divide, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Mary Ann Camp of Crawfordsville; two sisters, Terri Hood (husband: Nick) and Patricia Graves, and a brother, Darrell Shirar (wife: Stacey), all of Lafayette.

Visitation 5-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, with service at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hippensteel Funeral Home, the Rev. Dick Shirar officiating. Internment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by twin brothers, Rawland and Roland Shirar, and one granddaughter, Amanda Horton. Hippensteel Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
