Note*   George's marriage record to Elizabeth states he was a widower. A record found in the transcripts of Methodist minister Thomas Littlejohn suggest this might be Mary Mahonner or Mahonney: George Hough & Mary Mahonner m. 15 Jan 1807. George's brother Henry was married by Littlejohn as well so it might have been convenient to use the Methodist minister instead of the Lutheran church. If she was not Lutheran , the church may have not allowed the wedding forcing the use of the Methodist minister. Henry's wife Mary Stiffler was Lutheran.

In the Tavenner Collection (Thomas Balch Library) is the following record: Huff-Page 2, Geo H (___) 8mto m. Elizbth (Wine) Gross ( ___ ) dau. to Jacob W granted 1813 Ellin Peter?

This might suggest she was also married before to a Mr. Gross. Tavenner used some cryptic codes nly he knew about and the "8mto" shows up in many records. The name following the data is hard to make out but may suggest her first husbands given name. Ellin could be William. There is a marriage record for John Gross to Patience Ramsey and the bride's age was attested to by Daniel Wine which suggests a relationship between the Wine and Gross families.

Due to his marriage to Elisabeth Wein, George and Elisabeth were the beneficiary of one-fifth of Jacob Wein's estate.

George served in the War of 1812 as Captain in the 57th VA Militia. He is also listed as serving as a Constable in Loudoun Co., VA.

George shows up in the 1810 Census in Loudoun with a son and daughter but by 1820 he is living in Muskingum Co., OH. The land inherited from Jacob Wein was sold in 1829 to Daniel Wine (Deed Book 3S, pg 18) The land was adjacent to William Hough.
