Note*   An excerpt from the "History of Muskingum County, Ohio" by J. F. Everhart gives us some information about the Bainters:

"Louisa Bainter, a native of Muskingum county, Ohio, born October 4, 1832, and the daughter of Frederick and Mariah (Crumbaker) Bainter, both natives of the Old Dominion. Mr. and Mrs. Bainter settled in Muskingum county at an early day, and here the latter received her final summons. The former is still a resident of the county and is now eighty-eight years old."

I believe the age of Mr. Bainter at the time of writing was actually 78 years old as his gravestone gives his date of death as May 21, 1901 and his age as 96-9-3 making his date of birth actually Jul 30, 1804 and not 1794 as suggested by Mr. Everhart. He does contradict himself as he also states in a section on Frederick's son, Juias, "He was born in Monroe township of this county on July 24, 1834, the second of four children born to Frederick and Mariah (Crumbaker) Bainter, the former who was born in Madison township of this county, August 18, 1804, a son of Jacob and Elizabeth Bainter, who settled here in 1802, and a grandson of Frederick Bainter, who also came here in 1802, and died shortly after reaching this county."

This suggests some question as to the actual birth date. and possibly the wrong date on the stone in New hope. He might have actually been 106 years old but that is doubtful so we must assume at the time of writing the age of 88 years was wrong. It is more likely that Mr. Everhart is confusing Frederick with the Frederick Bainter b. 1786 in Bedford Co., PA, the son of Godfrey Frederick Bainter.

Further information is supplied by Mr. Everhart, "Frederick Bainter, the father of Julias A., spent his early life in Monroe township. At the age of twenty-seven years he was married to Miss Crumbaker, and the following were their children: Louisa, who was the first wife of W. W. Adams; Julias A.; Theodore, who is living on the home place in Monroe township; Jonas, who died at the age of thirty-eight years. After his marriage Mr. Bainter settled on a farm in Monroe township, and there he has resided ever since. Farming has always been his chief occupation, and the manner in which he has conducted his affairs has had everything to do in obtaining the competence which he now enjoys. His farm was at first heavily covered with timber, but with undeviating energy he wielded his ax, and in due time his land was cleared and a considerable portion under cultivation. He is a democrat, and is interested in all important issues of the day. He is a member of the Lutheran church and is active in all church matters, having been superintendent of the Sunday-school for a number of years."1
