Died Suddenly

William Adams of Kirwin passed away at the Concordia hospital Monday night after a short illness. He is survived by his widow Gertrude Lance Adams of Goodland, and a brother, Paul of Adamsville, Ohio. A complete obituary will be available for our next issue.

William C. Adams, the eldest child of Anna and Carlton Adams, was born Oct. 20, 1891 at Adamsville, Ohio. He departed this life on Dec. 29, 1969 in Concordia, Kans., at the age of 78 years, 3 moths and 9 days.

He arrived in Kansas from Ohio on his 21st birthday and worked as a farmhand for his uncle Aaron Gaumer. He was married to Minnie May Atchison of Kirwin on Sep. 14, 1914. To this union 2 sons were born, Wayne Victor died in infancy.

The family had lived for some 18 years on a farm in the area now enclosed by the Kirwin Dam. They lived in Phillpsburg for a short time and then moved to Kirwin, June 15, 1954.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie, on Oct. 30, 1959, and one brother, Clyde.

He found new happiness when he married Miss Gertrude Lance on Sept. 3, 1964. They made their home in Kirwin until the time of his death.

He was a devoted husband and father, a good neighbor and a warm friend to many people. He found great pleasure in having his grandchildren about him and they were devoted to him.

His passing brings sadness not only to his loved ones but a host of neighbors and friends as well.

Surviving relatives are his wife, Gertrude of the home; his son DeVaun C. and his wife Estella of Goodland; 2 grandsons Ronnie of the home and David, a student at Fort Hays State; one brother-in-law Lloyd Atchison of Denver, Colo.; a cousin, Alta Stuckman of Kirwin, and numerous nephews and nieces of Ohio.

Memorial services were held Friday, Jan. 2 in the Community Methodist church, Kirwin with the Rev. Lynn Evans officiating.

Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Fischli.

Casket Bearers were Al Stackhouse, Oral Power, Willard Johnson, Wayne Anderson, Charles McDowell and Richard McQueen.

Interment was in the Kirwin cemetery, Kirwin, Kans.

We wish to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to all who expressed their sympathy and concern with flowers, cards, food brought to the home and other kindnesses at the time of our sorrow.
