Herbert Wayne Ervin

Herbert Wayne "Snap" Ervin, 81, St. Augustine, died May 29, 2004, at Flagler Hospital. He was born in Cass County, Ind., and had resided in St. Augustine since 1983, moving here from Burlington, Ind. He had worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad in Indiana and later became employed with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 27 years of service. He was a veteran and ex-POW, serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Florida NE Coast Chapter of Ex-POW's; a life member of VFW; a member of DAV; a member of the Burlington American Legion; and participated in the Civilian Conservation Corp. He attended the Christian Missionary Alliance in Indiana.


Services: 8 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Kotrady-Hudgins-Croyle Funeral Home, 209 S. Ponce de Leon Blvd. Offng: The Rev. Billy German and the Rev. Jim Walker. Calling hours: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.


Survivors: Wife, Barbara A. Ervin, St. Augustine; three daughters, Debra Fuller, Ocala, Susan Scaff, Colleen Linsler, both of St. Augustine; one son, Jeremy Kleiber, St. Augustine; two brothers, Delmar Ervin, John Ervin, both of Logansport, Ind.; one sister, Mary McEldowney, Grand Rapids, Mich.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marcia Murphy, a grandson, Kyle Daniels, two brothers, Clarence and Earl E. Ervin, and two sisters, Evelyn Hutcheson and Alice Sarver.
Memorials: Flowers are gratefully declined and those wishing may make a contribution in his memory to the American Ex-Prisoners of War, 3201 E. Pioneer Parkway, Suite 40, Arlington, TX 76010.
