Maple, John, 1652, by Nicho. Sebrell, Northumberland Co

"Benjamin left England at the age of 21 to go to Barbados to serve as an indentured servant for four years to pay for his travel expenses to America. After his term in Barbados he entered the Colonies at New Jersey. He lived there and married there. Benjamin did not marry until he was 32 years old. That means he lived in New Jersey for seven years before he married. I think he may have worked to finish paying debt to America or was trying to make a home to start a family. As far as I can fine no Maple from this line ever owned any slaves. I think this may have been due to the experiences he had in Barbados and what he saw as a indentured slave there."1
