News/Obit* after 15 January 2010  She was a lifelong resident of Pittsburg County and attended school at Arpelar and Stuart. She married Harry L. Lee on Dec. 22, 1936, in Sherman, Texas and they lived in the Cabiness Community, farming and ranching for many years. During this time she was a homemaker as well as being involved in home extension work, frequently exhibiting sewing, cooking and canning items in the Pittsburg County Fair. At age 51, she pursued a degree in elementary education. She attended classes at Eastern Oklahoma State College at Wilburton and then received her degree in elementary education from East Central State College at Ada. After graduation, she taught second grade at Stuart Elementary School for 13 years. She enjoyed teaching children and instilled in her students that honest effort is rewarded and would pay dividends. After her teaching retirement, she assisted her husband in their business, The Monument Place, west of McAlester until his retirement. She and Claudine Barringer, her traveling companion, made many bus trips throughout the country. She had been active in her church, most recently the First Free Will Baptist Church of McAlester, as Sunday school teacher, women's' auxiliary, bowling team and other church activities. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Jack Crawford, of McAlester, Rebecca Lee, of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren, Dawnetta Hodge and husband, Doug, of Austin, Texas, Lynette Harness and husband, Brian, of Austin, Texas, Kent Lee, of Austin, Texas, Rachel Shaw and husband, Derek, of McAlester, Justin Crawford, of McAlester.And four great-grandchildren, Heather Hodge, Holly Hodge, Hunter Hodge, Jaxon Shaw; a sister, Marydel Lindley and husband, Bob, of Bethany, and a sister-in-law, Lois Firestone, of Bethany. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Bertha Firestone; her husband, the Rev. Harry L. Lee on Nov. 19, 1996, and two brothers, Orville Firestone and R. T. Firestone. Honorary pallbearers include members of her Sunday school class of First Free Will Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at First Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Ernest Harrison officiating and the Rev. Joel Kircher assisting. Burial will be at Arpelar Cemetery under direction of Bishop Funeral Service.
