Robert Shirrell Bateman, 74, of Blue Ridge, died Sunday, October 2, 2005. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Robert Edward Bateman, his parents Edward Glenn Bateman and Florence Coffey Bateman, brothers Edward Glenn Bateman, Jr. , Jeryll Wayne Bateman. Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Donna J. Bateman; daughters Melanie Goins of Roanoke, Becky Pinion of Roanoke; sister and brother-in-law, Judy B. and Wallace Ferguson; sister-in-law, Phyllis B. Bateman; stepsons, Toni J. and wife Tracy Akers of Natural Bridge, Bobby L. and wife Debbie Akers, Roanoke; stepdaughters, Judy May Fifer, Christiansburg, Rose A. and husband, Steve Spade of Blue Ridge; nine stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at Lotz Salem Chapel. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home, Salem.
