| News/Obit* | 31 May 2002 | BRANSCOM, Frederick David, 70, died suddenly at his home in Fincastle on Thursday, May 30, 2002. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Georgia Branscom. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sallie Downard Branscom of Fincastle; son and daughter-in-law, MAJ David and Kimberlee Branscom of Vine Grove, Ky.; daughter and son-in-law, Rachael and Michael Murdock of Kettering, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Rosanne and David Herd of Upper Arlington, Ohio. Also survived are four grandchildren, Samantha and Mary Cate Murdock, Ellen and Jack Herd; a brother and sister-in-law, William J. and Jean Branscom of Fincastle; and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Jim McCorkindale of Roanoke; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Branscom was a graduate of Jefferson High School and Virginia Tech. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a U.S. Army ranger. He retired as a Claims Specialist from State Farm Insurance Company following 32 years of service. Mr. Branscom was a member of Fincastle Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the Ridge Rifle Association. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's North Chapel on Saturday, June 1, 2002 at 1 p.m. The Rev. Neil Dunnavant will officiate. Graveside services will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with military honors by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be Friday, May 31, 2002 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel, 362-1237. 1 |
