William F. Springer

William F. Springer, 81, of Coos Bay, formerly of Medford, died Feb. 19, 2000, in Coos Bay. The memorial service was held Feb. 24 at Hauser Community Church in North Bend. Pastor Mel Wiggers officiated.


Among survivors not previously listed are two sons; and one daughter. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

William F. Springer

The memorial service for William F. Springer will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Hauser Community Church in North Bend. Pastor Mel Wiggers will officiate. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park.


Mr. Springer, 81, of Coos Bay, formerly of Medford, died Saturday (Feb. 19, 2000) at the Life Care Center in Coos Bay.


Memorial contributions may be made to Seniors in Action, Hauser Community Church, 5050 Wildwood Drive, North Bend, OR 97459, or the Alzheimer's Disease Center of Oregon, P.O. Box 10051, Portland, OR 97210.


He was born July 6, 1918, in Riverside County, Calif., a son of Francis and Esther Jane (Firestone) Springer.


On July 29, 1940, in Reno, Nev., he married Wanda L. Hondrick, who survives. They lived in Ashland.


Mr. Springer worked for Southern Pacific Railroad in Ashland for 16 years. They moved to Charleston in 1957, where he worked as a power house operator for Weyerhaeuser for 22 years, retiring in 1980.


He served in the U.S. Army in the Transportation Corps in France and Germany from 1944 to 1946. He worked in the shop battalion where he was in charge of locomotive repairs.


Mr. Springer was a member of Hauser Community Church.


He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping.


Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a sister, Julia Hackett, Medford, two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
