News/Obit 2 November 2003  Obituary,
Violet Lois Jenkins

Violet Lois Jenkins, beloved mother, teacher and musician died Thursday (October 30, 2003) at the Ashland Community Hospital of natural causes. She was 82 years old.

Lois was born in Ashland, Oregon on February 11, 1921 to James and Violet Firestone. She attended school in the Ashland area; after graduating from Talent High School she earned her college degree in Education. Following high school, she married Ernest Fieguth and began a family. She became an elementary school teacher and taught locally for many years, retiring in 1980.

Her retirement years were spent visiting her much-loved family (who affectionately called her 'Maddy'), exercising her strong faith by leading bible studies and attending the Ashland Christian Fellowship. She helped with Meals-on-Wheels for ten years, assisted with the Blood Mobile for the Red Cross, was a member of the Retired Teachers' Association, played violin for the Second Street Symphony, and participated in many other volunteer activities in the community. Other pursuits included an avid interest in gardening and a passion for sharing classical and blue grass music with audiences in the local area.

Survivors include: her sister, Nancy Fieguth of Rogue River; three daughters, Karen Sue Smith of Ashland, Dianne Kay Brock of Bend, Elizabeth Ellen Sagmiller of Salem; and one son, James Edward Fieguth of Ashland. Her 4 grandchildren, former husband and friend, Bob Jenkins also survive her.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Saturday November 23, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Ashland Christian Fellowship, 50 W. Hersey Street, Ashland.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lois Jenkins Fund, Ashland Schools Foundation, 100 Walker, Ashland, OR 97520. Lois had a calling to teach and this will be a fitting way to continue her legacy to education.

The family deeply appreciated the professional care and compassion of the staff at the Ashland Community Hospital, Intensive Care Unit and to doctors Stone and Hoffman. Our dearly loved Maddy will be laid to rest at a private interment with arrangements made by Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home.
