Note*   One source gives Samuel's death as 1863 but he had several children after that date. He does not show up in the 1870 census yet has a daughter born in 1871. Since Alice was born in May of 1871, her father would have had to be alive when she was conceived, August 1870. The 1870 census was August 14 so it is possible he died just before the census was taken and gave birth 9 months later.
