News/Obit* 24 October 1918  Obituary,

Eliza Jane Shields, daughter of M. and Cinthia Shields, was born in Gallia County, Ohio, August 23rd, A.D., 1851, died at her home in Morgan Township, Decatur County, Iowa, at l0 o'clock Monday night, Oct. 7th, A.D., 1918; age 67 years, 1 month and 14 days. Her mother died when she was young, she came with her father and family to Iowa in the spring of 1865 and settled in Morgan Township, Decatur County.

When 15 years old, she was converted and baptized in the Christian Church at Leon, Iowa; after her marriage she changed her membership to the Methodist Church at Union. The church at that place was abandoned but she ever remained a true Christian, and died as she had lived believing in a risen Savior.

She was united in marriage to Mr. J. M. Hollinger, December 24th, A.D., 1862, Parson Green Elmore officiating and three sons were born to this union, namely; Clyde M., of Easterbrook, Wyoming; J.B., of Lineville, Iowa and Harry A., of Pleasanton, Iowa. She suffered much pain with remarkable fortitude and patience and was never confined entirely to her bed and was attending to her household work all day Monday and retired about eight o'clock in the evening and passed away at 10 o'clock without a struggle. If death loves a shining mark, he found her ready. Her brother, Lee Shields and sister, Miss Minnie Ragan were present.

Funeral services were held at the Elm M. E. Church on Wednesday, conducted by Rev. Trotter of Lineville, and interment made in the Evergreen Cemetery at Lineville, Iowa. She leaves her husband, 3 sons and their families, l6 grandchildren, also 2 brothers, Ashley Shields of Pleasanton, Iowa and Lee Shields of Mercer, Mo., and 1 sister, Mrs. Linnie (Shields) Ragan of Mercer, Mo., besides many other relatives and friends to mourn her death.

The family wish to express their sincere thanks to all who assisted and gave sympathy in their sad bereavement.
