MANSFIELD -- Eleanor Irene Berry, 81, of Muth Road died Sunday, May 18, 2003, in the emergency room of MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital after a long illness.


She was born November 13, 1921, in Ashland to George D. and Vera K. Parker Neiswinter, and was graduated from Medina High School in 1940.


A Lucas area resident most of her life, early in life she had worked as housekeeper for Louis Bromfield at the storied Malabar Farm Big House.


Eleanor had worked as a school secretary with Lucas Local Schools from 1949 until the time of her retirement in 1977.


She was a member of Clearfork Alliance Church, the Monday Morning Bible Study, and the Fun-n-Friendship Club of Bellville.


Eleanor loved to be outside, working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was equally content inside, often busy in the kitchen canning and freezing fresh fruits and vegetables or baking a batch of cookies.


She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Judy Berry of Put-in-Bay grandchildren, Dan and Taryn Berry of Worthington, Jeff and Vivian Berry and Mike and Tami Berry, all of Mansfield great-grandchildren, Keelie Speckert, Kaydan Berry, Karson Berry, Christian Berry and Dakota Uselton two sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilma and Frank Lucas of LaGrange and Sara and Merle Bidlake of New London 11 nieces, five nephews and 29 great-nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Merle Berry and a brother, George Neiswinter.


Friends may call Wednesday, May 21, 2003, from 4-8 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. Friends may also call the hour prior to the funeral service. Dr. Michael V. Stine will officiate. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Lucas.


Memorial contributions to Clearfork Alliance Church may be made at the funeral home.
