| News/Obit* | 29 May 1930 | The funeral of Charles Firestone, 61, died suddenly Monday morning at his farm home two miles northwest of Union, Mich., will be held this Thursday. Following a service at the home at 10 a.m., the body was taken to the North Union cemetery, Elkhart county, for burial. Friends desiring to view the remains will be given the opportunity to do so at the cemetery. The Rev. W. Montgomery of Adamsville, will have charge of the services. Mr. Firestone, who was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Firestone was born May 4, 1869, on a farm seven miles east of Wakarusa. He was married to Miss Cora Lechlitner of Wakarusa, who was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Lechlitner of Union township. Mr. and Mrs. Firestone moved to the Michigan farm 15 years ago. There were no children, and following Mrs. Firestone’s death, which occurred last July 20, he had continued to live on the place, with a young couple as his companions. Surviving him are the following brothers and sisters: David of Wakarusa, William of Mason township, Cass county, Elmer E. of Chicago, John J. of Allegan, Mich., and Mrs. George Hammond and Mrs. Charles Topper, both of Mason township. Like his wife, Mr. Firestone died suddenly. Both were found dead. Mr. Firestone’s death was attributed by the coroner to heart disease. He had been ill several days though his condition was not regarded as serious. His tenant, before leaving for the fields Monday morning, stepped into his bedroom and asked how he was feeling and if he desired any food. He replied that nothing need be brought to him as he was better and would get up soon. The tenant’s wife followed her husband to a field, and on returning to the house found Mr. Firestone lifeless, on the floor. Published in the Wakarusa Tribune 29 May 19305 |
