News/Obit* after 17 May 1918  Obituary,
MRS> ELIZABETH NIMS DEAD

Passes Away at A Ripe Old Age

Nearly all of Her Life Was

Spent in Adamsville

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Nims died at her home in this village Wednesday, May 15, 1918, after a short illness from a complication of diseases. She had been in delicate health for quite a while prior to her death but had been able to be up and do some work about the house. Although over fourscore years of age her death was unexpected and quite a shock to her relatives and friends.

Mrs. Nims was the daughter of Henry and Susan Decker and was born in Adamsville August 20, 1836. Her father was Dr. Henry Decker, one of the pioneer physicians of Adamsville and also one of the active contributors to the early growth of the village.

In 1864 she was united in marriage to Asa Nims and to which union seven children were born. One daughter proceeded her to the grave. The children living are Chester, of New Castle, Pa.; Minor, of Barnesville, Ohio; Edith Dean, of Somerset, Ohio; Alonzo and Neal Nims and Mrs. Anna Dean, of this village. Mr. Nims died Feb 23, 1905. The deceased is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. W. S. Shirer, of Newark; Mrs. Finley Shilling, of Philadelphia, Pa.; and Mrs. S. S. Dickinson, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and one brother, Lafeyette Decker, of Addison, N.Y.

With the exception of a short time all of Mrs. Nims' long life has been spent in Adamsville. Some time prior to her death she spoke of seeing soldiers from Adamsville leave for the Mexican War in 1846. Over 70 years have passed since that time and on a second occasion since then she has witnessed the response of soldiers from this village for service for their country. During her long life the environments of her native home clung to her and although most of her old friends had passed away she still found comfort in new friends and in new environments.

Mrs. Nims was a member of the Methodist church, having united with that congregation in early life. She was a good neighbor and citizen and enjoyed the confidence and good will of a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Adamsville M.E. church by Rev. N. E. Hulbert and the remains were laid to rest in the New Hope Lutheran cemetery by the side of her husband. H. E. Shirer had charge of the burial.
