Chancery Court Case # 81, 21 April 1850; to wife Polly, personal property sufficient to keep house, and balance to be sold; my homestead farm to be rented out and my Negro boy Mose to be hired for ten years and proceeds to support widow and raise and school my two children; Mary Ann and Mathias; after ten years Mose to belong to the two children and farm to be sold and proceeds to be divided as follows, $ 300 each to sons William and Alfred, Elizabeth wife of James Douglass, and Martha, David, Mary, and Sarah Cobb heirs of Joseph and Sarah Cobb, and balance of estate to be divided equally between son Samuel, Mary Ann, and Mathias; if widow married any man at any time she is to have $ 100 and no more; execs. to build a comfortable house at the Winton Spring for widow and my two children for ten years; to son John $ 300; son David has had equal share and is to get no more; execs., son Samuel and E.P. Bloom; witnessess, Uriel Johnson, Samuel Patterson. Cobb purchased John Firestone's interest in his father's estate. By some decree of County Court land was sold in 1853 to Samuel Firestone and David A. Cobb was appointed receiver. John Firestone started off to one of the Western States, was followed by James C. Firestone, son of Samuel, who prevailed upon him to transfer his interest to him, James. Joseph Cobb knew nothing of this until James came from Ala. and presented his claim to David A. Cobb who executed his note for same, which James sold to John Benton. No answer or decree in file.4 |
