| News/Obit* | 22 January 2010 | WERN Virginia Buker Wern, long time resident of Palm Valley, died on January 19, 2010 of natural causes surrounded by her loving family. Born October 18, 1913 in Adamsville, Ohio. She is survived by one daughter, Hazel Wern Dalton, six grandchildren; Linda Reed (Stephen), Connie Smith (Leon), Beth Barkoskie (Martin), Jeffrey Farris, Karen Farris, Cory Dalton. Three Great Grandchildren; Martin Barkoskie (Kelly), Kyle Farris, Joshua Smith (Amanda) Katey Reed and one great, great grandchild; Trip Barkoskie. Mrs. Wern was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Frank Otto Wern, one son, Frank O. Wern, Jr., two Great Grandsons, Jeremy Smith and Ryan Reed. Having worked many years for the Florida State School Book Depository as a bookkeeper and later as secretary for the family construction business, her pioneer labors in the settlement of the Palm Valley area in the 40's and 50's are widely known. She was also a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution-Ponte Vedra Chapter. She was a faithful wife, a loving Mother and Grandmother, the respected matriarch of her family; she remained sound of body and mind to the last. She is loved and will be greatly missed. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, Jan 25th, in the Chapel of HARDAGE- GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, with Rev. Jack Millwood officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you send contributions to the organization of your choice to aid in the relief of survivors of the Haitian earthquake disaster.
