ZANESVILLE - William "Bill" Dwight Adams, 83, of Zanesville, passed away at 11:35 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, at Genesis Hospice, Morrison House. Bill was born on Aug. 31, 1923, in Muskingum County, to the late Clyde and Ruth Hutchison Adams. He served our country and protected our freedom by serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a sergeant in the 19th Troop Carrier Squadron during World War II. Bill farmed and worked for Armco Steel, from which he retired in February 1977. He was a member of Fair Oaks Baptist Church, American Legion of Dresden Post 0399 for 41 years, and the senior center. Bill loved to travel take cruises, square dance with his wife, Helen, and was a proud veteran. Bill, known as Poppy by his family, is survived by his loving wife, Helen Marie Rabel Adams of the home; two sons, John (Susie) Adams and Bill Adams of Nashport; two daughters, Mary Jane Peffer of Trinway and Ruth Elaine Croy of Nashport; three stepsons, Jack (Carolyn) Huey, Gary (Janie) Huey and Bruce Huey; three stepdaughters, Donna Hockensmith of Pennsylvania, Debbie (Terry) Marple of Florida and Mary (Myron) Jolly of Michigan; a brother, Arthur (Clarice) Adams of Trinway; two sisters, Helen Mercer of Norwich and Mary Steele of North Canton; a sister-in-law, Glenna (Raymond) Adams; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgianna Fulks Adams; a brother, Raymond Adams; a sister, Esther St. Clair; and two infant siblings.

Calling hours will begin at 11 a.m. with funeral services at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at The Snouffer Funeral Home, 1150 W. Military Road. Pastor Bob Buchanan will officiate. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum in Memorial Park Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted by George Selsam VFW Post 1058.
