Obituaries of Nelson Burr and Abigail Waterman (Coffin) Rowley
Dakota County Tribune, 18 May, 1893
In Farmington, May 10th, 1893, of pneumonia Mr. N. B. Rowley in his eighty-fourth year.
N. B. ROWLEY, an old and well known citizen of this section, died at the Commercial Hotel at Farmington on the 10th inst.
Mr. Rowley came to Farmington twenty-five years ago and purchased the farm in Castle Rock which was thereafter his home. Three years ago his wife was taken away by death, and we are now called upon to chronicle his demise.
He was born in St. Lawrence County, New York, on the 15th of March, 1810, and had thus lived to the ripe age of eighty-three years, twenty-five of which were spent in this neighborhood. All of the old settlers in Farmington were well acquainted with the kindly and genial presence of "Uncle Rowley", and it is not too much to say that he was a general favorite with all who knew him. He was of honest, sturdy old Puritan stock, and retained the peculiarities of his race. In all the relations of life he was among the best of men, and he will be sorely missed by the old settlers, and also those of the younger generation who knew him.
His death was rather unexpected. He had sold the homestead near the village, and was preparing to take his departure for Billings, Montana, to spend the remainder of his days with his son, Col. H. W. Rowley, when he was seized with pneumonia and died as stated.
He left two children to mourn his loss - Col. H. W. Rowley, and the wife of Frank J. Mead, the well known newspaper man of Minneapolis.
