Mrs. Anna A. Cappola

Mrs. Anna A. Cappola, of 612 South St., Steinhorst Square Apts., entered into rest January 5, 1988.

She was born on May 21, 1910.  She was married to the late Anthony Cappola.  He passed away here in Utica, on September 4, 1974.  Mrs. Cappola was employed at Broad Acres Nursing Facility as a Nurse's Aide.  She retired in May 1974.  Mrs. Cappola was active in many local senior citizen activities.  She was a member of the East Side Senior Center, the Women's Auxiliary of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #450, and she was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church, South St.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard A. and Virginia Cappola, Utica, and Philip J. and Dorothy Cappola, Marcy; six grandchildren, Christine Ann Coffin, Richard A., Tina Marie, Stephen M., Donna M. and Lori A. Cappola; and three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.  She also leaves a very special friend, Margaret Eichler.

The funeral will be Friday, at 9 a.m. from the Hobaica Gigliotti Funeral Home, 1122 Culver Ave., and at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Mary's Church, South St., where a Mass of the Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Anthony P. LaFache.  Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home today, 2-4 and 7-9 (and 7-9--repeated).  Arrangements by the Hobaica-Gigliotti Funeral Services, Inc.

NORTH GAGE, (p.o.,) in the N. part is a hamlet.

The first settlement was commenced in 1773.  [George G. Weaver, Capt. Mark Damoth, and Christian Real settled at the Corners in 1773.  In 1776, hearing that a band of tories and Indians were planning a descent upon the settlement, they retreated to Little Stone Arabia.  In 1784, they returned, and about the same time Peter, Nicholas, and George Weaver, George Damoth, Nicholas and Philip Harter, came in.  During the first 15 or 20 years the settlements did not extend to the N. part of the town.  The Cox and Coffin families were the first in that part.]
