He was born Gerald Ivan Page to George Robert Page and Ida Frances Mitchell on March 6, 1908. He married Gladys Frances Burge (daughter of Robert Joseph Burge and Rosetta Adcock) on Oct. 26, 1930. Gladys passed away on Nov. 9, 1989.
This picture was taken at our Burge Family Reunion in Branson, Missouri in 2001. Ivan is seated and accompanied by two of his daughters, left Dorothy Anita Webb and right Gloria Gladeen Terry.
Although I've only known Ivan a short time, he is very dear to me. It is people like him that make family reunions so worthwhile. Ivan is a lovely person and a better man you will never meet.
Recently, his daughter Gloria Terry talked to him about his memories of different Burge family members. The following is an email to me on 8/12/02:
Daddy starting thinking back - Thought this would be good to keep in memory for later generations:
Rosetta Burge (My grannie) had her horses morgaged at the bank. This
was after Robert Joseph Burge had died. Rosie found out later that
Thomas Wilson Burge had her horses morgaged at the bank too!!!
Rosie Burge always said that if she ever needed a lawyer she would like
for Thomas Wilson Burge to defend her. He must have been good at talking his way out of problems.
My dad said Joe was driving the team of horses with the wagon that
Fannie fell off of and died from broken back. This closes that
file from Waco article that you and I had wondered which boy was
driving the wagon.
Dad also said that Nettie's husband Travis Lee, Sr. married the
lady that took care of Nettie when she was sick. This lady was
older than Travis Lee, Sr. Daddy met her once in Kerrville and
said she was a real nice lady.
Rosie ran out of groceries and she prayed real hard that night to
God for help. The next morning Joe Burge, the youngest boy rode
up with a bag of groceries. Rosie said that God had sent the
groceries and Joe said no that Thomas Wilson Burge had sent the
groceries. Rosie told Joe that God had sent the groceries but MAYBE the
devil delivered. Rosie always said that Thomas Wilson Burge was
a good hearted man.
