GROENDAL, MR. FREDERICK R. (Widower of Marva) Muskegon Mr. Fred R. Groendal, age 65, died Tuesday December 19, 2000 in Muskegon. He was born November 3, 1935 to Jacob and Minnie (Doornbos) Groendal in Muskegon, and had been a life resident. He retired as a truck driver from Dykstra Food Service where he had worked for 32 years. Mr. Groendal was also a member of the Fruitport Eagles. On November 22, 1968 he married the former Marva Panozzo, and she preceded him in death on April 11, 1999. SURVIVORS include 4 children, Matthew (Susan) Groendal of Midland, Dean (Diana) Groendal of Muskegon, Pamela Jean (David) Unger of Crestview, Florida, and Debra (Harvey) Dean of Hesperia; 11 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; mother, Minnie Groendal; 1 brother, Henry (Jean) Groendal of Ludington; 3 sisters, Virginia Arneberg, Lois (Bill) Workman, Frances (Alex) Lazarock all of Muskegon; and 1 sister-in-law, Judith Groendal of Muskegon. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Jon F. Groendal, 1 brother, James Groendal, and 1 brother-in-law, Paul Arneberg. SERVICES will be 1 PM Friday at Sytsema Funeral Home 737 Apple Avenue with Pastor John H. Brown officiating. There will be no visitation. GROENDAL, MR. HENRY “HANK”, Muskegon. Mr. Henry “Hank” Groendal, age 78, died very unexpectedly Wed., August 23, at Mercy Hospital. Born Dec. 13, 1910 in Muskegon, he had been a life resident. He had been employed at Teledyne Continental Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1970, was an avid outdoorsman, and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of WW II. On Dec. 16, 1958, he married the former Martha L. Gibbs in Indiana. Survivors include his wife, Martha; 2 sons, Berton (& Lois) Reed of Muskegon, Roger (& Virginia) Reed of FL; 2 daughters, Bonnie (& Dale) Schmiedeknecht of Muskegon, Molly (& Jay) Jacobs of Holland; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Betty Groendal of Muskegon. 598 S. Brooks Rd. Mr. Jacob Groendal, age 76, died Friday afternoon at his home. A life resident of Muskegon, he was born May 11, 1904 and married the former Minnie “Betty” Doornbos on July 25, 1925. He was a machinist for 43 years at Teledyne Continental retiring in 1969, and was a member of the Fellowship Reformed Church. SURVIVORS His wife Minnie, 3 Daughters, Mrs. Paul (Virginia) Arneberg of Twin Lake, Mrs. William (Lois) Workman of Spring Lake and Mrs. Alex (Frances) Lazarock of Muskegon, 3 Sons, Henry of Lakeland, FL, Fred of Muskegon and M/SGT James Groendal stationed in N. He was born August 1, 1940 in Muskegon to Jacob & Minnie (Doornbos) Groendal and resided here until 1959 when he joined the U.S. Air Force. Upon his retirement from the military in 1984 as a Master Sergeant, he returned to Muskegon where he has since lived. From 1984-1998, Mr. Groendal worked at Weyburn-Bartel as a drill press operator. He was a member of Fellowship Reformed Church. In his spare time, Mr. Groendal loved drawing, woodcrafting, hunting, painting, being “out-of-doors” and his grandchildren. On November 6, 1959 he married the former Judith R. Doriot and she survives him along with his mother, Minnie Groendal of Muskegon; 3 children, Denise Renee (Randy) King of Muskegon, Tamara Lea Groendal-Mason of Belding and James J. (Karen) Groendal of Holland; 5 grandchildren, Nichole Denise Kinder, Lucas Brian King, Nathan H. P. C. Mason, Ashley MaShell Groendal and Jacob M. T. Groendal; 2 step-grandchildren, Janelle and Ryan King; 2 brothers, Henry (Jean) Groendal of Ludington and Frederick Groendal of Muskegon; 3 sisters, Virginia (Paul) Arneberg, Lois (William) Workman and Frances (Alex) Lazarock, all of Muskegon; his father & mother-in-law, Eugene & Nina Doriot of Muskegon, his sister-in-law, Carol (Craig) Babcock of Boston, MA; and many nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with military services under the auspices of the Muskegon County Council Veteran’s of Foreign Wars. VISITATION with the family will be from 7-9 P.M. GROENDAL, MRS. JUDITH R. , (Widow of James M.), Muskegon. Mrs. Judith R. Groendal, age 61, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2003 at her home. She was born June 17, 1941 in Tomahawk, WI to Eugene T. and Nina R. (Fairfield) Doriot and lived in the Muskegon area most of her life except 25 years while her husband served in the U.S. Armed Forces. On November 6, 1959, she married James M. Groendal in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on April 18, 1999. She was a member of Fellowship Reformed Church and loved crafts. SURVIVORS include 3 children, Denise Renee (Randy) King of Muskegon, Tamara Lea (Ben) Groendal-Bradbury of Belding, and James J. (Karen) Groendal of Holland; 5 grandchildren, Nichole Denise Kinder, Lucas Brian King, Nathan H.P.C. Mason, Ashley MaShell Groendal, and Jacob M.T. On July 25, 1925, she married Jacob Groendal in Spring Lake, MI and he preceded her in death on August 1, 1980. She was a member of Fellowship Reformed Church and the Ladies Aide. SURVIVORS include 2 daughters, Lois (Bill) Workman and Frances (Alex) Lazarock both of Muskegon; 1 son, Henry (Jean) Groendal of Ludington; 1 daughter-in-law, Judith Groendal of Muskegon; 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Anna Wierenga and Joanne Wierenga; many nieces and nephews; and her many good friends at Fellowship Reformed Church. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Virginia Arneberg, 2 sons, Frederick (and wife, Marva) Groendal and James Groendal.
