The funeral of C. E.
Califf occurred Sunday from the Califf farm in Fruitland. Mr. Califf died Friday night aged 55 years. He
was a well-known farmer and has held several offices of trust in his
township.

DAVID E. CALIFF,
OLD RESIDENT OF FRUITLAND, DIES. David E. Califf, a resident of Fruitland township for more than forty
years, died at his home yesterday after an
illness of a week with the grip.
He was born in Bradford county, Pa., in 1825, and in 1858 came to Michigan. A year later he settled on a farm in
Fruitland and had lived there ever
since. In 1858 he and Miss Harriet
Knickerbocker were married. Fourteen years ago Mrs. Califf died in
Fruitland. Mr. Califf leaves three
children: Mrs. Emma K. Jenkins, 22
Giddings street; Ernest R. Califf, Fruitland, and Frank Califf, Rudolph,
La. He also leaves the following
grandchildren in Muskegon: David, Claude and John Jenkins, and Elmer and Nellie Califf. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1 o’clock at the Gordon school house in Fruitland. Rev. W. I. Cogshall, of the Central M. E. church will conduct the service.

66 years, after suffering with paralysis for thirteen years. She had lived in Fruitland for thirty-three
years. The funeral took place yesterday

Emma R. Califf, Was Widow of Civil War Veteran. Mrs. Emma R. Califf, a resident of Muskegon
Heights since 1910 died yesterday at the Michigan Soldiers’ Home of Grand
Rapids, following a lingering illness of one and one-half years. She was 75 years old. Mrs. Califf, the widow of a Civil war
veteran, had gone to the Grand Rapids institution two weeks ago. She was born July 23, 1852, in Knox county,
Ohio. She spent the greater part of her
life in Fruitland township, and has been a resident of Muskegon Heights for the
past eighteen years. Mrs. Califf was a
member of the Church of God, of Muskegon Heights, and the W. C. T. U. She is survived by four sons, Harry E., of
Muskegon Heights, Charles D., of Grand Haven, Leslie A., of Nunica, and Ernest
F., of Flint; three daughters, Mrs. John Mason, and Mrs. Mabel De Coster, of
Muskegon Heights, Mrs. Edna Morse, of Los Angeles; three brothers, Charles L.
Evans, and Frank Evans, of Kansas City, Mo., Robert S. Evans, of Manhattan,
Kan.; one sister, Mrs. Lee Talbott, of Indianola, Iowa; 25 grandchildren, and
seven great-grandchildren.

CALIFF—The funeral services of Mrs. Emma R. Califf, 744 Reynolds street, will be held from the Church of God Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock, Rev. W. M. Hartman of Kalamazoo, officiating. Burial will take place in Fruitland township cemetery. For information call Lee Funeral Home.

Dalton Township Mrs. Fern M. Califf, age 70, died Saturday
morning at a local hospital following a
long illness. She was born December 2,
1923 in Muskegon Hts. and lived in the
Muskegon area all of her life. The
former Fern M. Steele married Ernest L.
Califf in Neosho, Missouri on November 2, 1942. She was an avid bowler and owned
& operated Dalton Beauty Shop until retiring in 1978. SURVIVORS: her husband, Ernest; 6 sons, Robert (Pamela) Califf of
Lakewood Club, Ernest (Norma) Califf, Jr. of
Twin Lake, Richard (Lorarine) Califf, Henry (Susan) Califf, Perry Califf
and Carl (Donnakay) Califf, all of
Muskegon; her mother, Irene Engelbertson of Benzonia; a sister, Alice Tiff of Muskegon Hts.; an
adopted brother, Elmer Engelbertson and an
adopted sister, Cheri Lou Engelbertson; 17 grandchildren and 8
great-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by a brother, Harold Steele.
The FUNERAL SERVICE will be held
Tuesday 1:00 P.M. at the Lee Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip T. Shear

MR. MILEN A. “MIKE”, Rothbury. Mr.
Califf, age 57, died June 1, 1997. Born
January 24, 1940, in Muskegon, he had lived in the area all his life. In 1992, he married the former Marie
Harwood. FAMILY: His wife, Marie; children, Deborah (Bryan)
Eastling of Muskegon, Cynthia Califf of Nunica and Brian Ahearn of Muskegon; 2
step-sons and 1 step-daughter; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchildren; his
parents, Emeline & Robert Hanke of Holton; 1 sister, Patricia (Bill) Kempf
of Whitehall; 3 brothers, Arthur Gray of Fremont, Dale (Celeste) Gray of Grand
Ledge and Edward (Barbara) Hanke of Holton.

1997, at 10 AM, from Clock Chapel-Whitehall with the officiating. Interment will be made in Fruitland Township

Mrs. Califf dies at 87 Mrs.
Ordelia Califf, of 5651 Grand Haven Road, died early today in the Medical Care Facility after a long illness. She was 87. The former Ordelia Westcomb was born July
15, 1878, in Grand Haven and attended
schools there before coming to Muskegon in 1900. On March 24, 1917, she
married Charles B. Califf. He
died on Feb.10, 1959. Mrs.
Califf was a member of the Muskegon Heights Gospel Tabernacle. She is survived by two sons, Robert and Frank Walsama, of Muskegon; three daughters,
Mrs. Delilah English, of Fort Smith, Ark., Mrs. Ordelia Savage, of Muskegon Heights, and Mrs.. Ida Curtis, of
Norton Township: four grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
