Ferguson, Loveland, CO. Mary A.
(Berry) Ferguson was born Feb. 14, 1913, on the Berry family farm in Parke Co.,
Indiana. She was the third of nine
surviving children of John P. and Cora C. (Snow) Berry. The Berry ancestors came from county Tyrone,
Ireland to Parke Co. Ind. in 1833. Mary is survived by four children: Keith and
Irmy Ferguson of Bear Valley Springs , Calif.; Ken and Pat Ferguson of Dillon,
Co; Morris Ferguson of Winnsboro , Texas ; and Carolyn Mahlum of Brevard , N.C.
She has 13
grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by two brothers, Morris Berry of Crawfordsville,
Ind. and Malcolm Berry of Greencastle, Ind. and one sister, Helen Haymen also
of Greencastle, Ind. and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary graduated from
Greene Township High School in 1930. She
married Neal P. Ferguson in Petersburg, Ind. on Aug. 14, 1933. They moved to rural Montague, Michigan in
1937 where they farmed until 1950, then lived in Rothbury, Mich. They returned to Ind. in the mid 1960s where
Neal eventually became town marshal in Jamestown, Ind. for several years. In 1972 they moved to Isanti, Minn. where in
their retirement years, they were caretakers for the Erickson Farms. In 1981 Neal developed cancer and they moved
to Denver, Colo. for expert treatment and to be near family. They then settled in the Big Thompson Manor
retirement home in Loveland Colorado.
Mary’s husband of 53 years, Neal passed away on April 25, 1986. Mary was a resident of Loveland’s Good
Samaritan Village from June, 2002 until her passing on March 23, 2005. She and her beloved Neal are together again
and will soon be planning a picnic and fishing trip. The fishing should be good in heaven - no
cleaning, already rolled in cornmeal cooked and ready to eat. Mary devoted her whole life to her family,
first mothering her younger brothers and sisters, then taking care of her
family. She was a good and loving mother
and housewife who cooked many good meals and canned many quarts of fruits,
vegetables, jellies and jams on a wood burning stove at the Michigan farm. Mary never drove a car and was asked once,
“why not?” her reply “I never needed to go anyplace that Neal wasn’t
going.” She only worked outside the home
a year or so as a cook at our country grade school and as a clerk at the U.S.
Post Office in Rothbury, Mich in the late 50s.
Mary was a member of the Auxiliary Red Cross in the 40s and helped roll
bandages and what was needed for the war effort. She was a 4-H leader and taught many young
girls sewing and canning. Mary was also
a member of the Eastern Star in Montague, Michigan. We all love and miss you mom. Tell Dad hi and save some fish for us.
Services took place at the Viegut Funeral Home on March 25 in Loveland
Colorado, and were conducted by the Rev James Murphy of Faith Evangelical
Church. Cremation followed.

Three die in
county in weekend traffic Muskegon County's traffic toll climbed to 18
this year when three persons died over
the weekend. The count compares
to eight deaths a year ago. Edna J.
Peterson, 58, of 2605 W. River, died when the car she was riding in was involved in a three-car
collision at Whitehall and River at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. The driver, her husband Raymond, 60, was in critical
condition today with multiple injuries in Hackley Hospital's intensive care
unit. Muskegon County Sheriff's deputies
said the accident happened when a northbound pickup truck on Whitehall
skidded sideways on slippery pavement
and entered the southbound lane and collided with two approaching cars,
including the Peterson vehicle. Carl W. Parrish Jr., 29, of 3275 Worden, told
police that he tried unsuccessfully to steer the truck into a nearby woods.
The driver of the third car in the collision, Russell A. Pulaski, 27, of
866 Fleming, told investigators that he saw
the truck slide out of control but that he was unable to avoid hitting
it. A passenger, Jason Pulaski, 4, of
the same address, was in critical
condition in Hackley's intensive care unit with a head injury. Five other persons in the accident were
treated and released. Dalton Township firemen were called to free
up trapped victims with a Hurst tool.
Norton Shores police said a
Wyoming, Mich., woman died just before midnight Sunday when her car
rolled several times on Seaway after it failed to make a curve at the Norton intersection. A county medical examiner pronounced Lydia A.
Martinez, 27, dead at the scene of the
accident. A passenger, Diamantina
G. Fernandez, 29, of 2855 Taft in Spring Lake, was not injured. The county's third weekend fatality occurred early Saturday when
a 19-year-old Grand Rapids man died after he fell from his motorcycle into
the path of a van. Michael Wayne Conant was pronounced dead on
arrival at Grant Hospital, according to state police from Newaygo.
Police said Conant was northbound on M-37 near White Road in Muskegon
County when he ran into the rear of another motorcycle and was thrown into the
path of the van.

Boy Auto
Thieves Add to Record in Latest Escapade
As automobile thieves, William
Fix, 12 years old, and his brother, August, 9 years old, hold the record
here. The two Muskegon Heights youths added two more cars
to their total yesterday, making four
automobiles and a horse and buggy they have stolen since last Sunday,
according to the officers. A Ford sedan owned by Earl Eckerman, employed
at the Campbell, Wyant and Cannon
factory, was stolen yesterday by the boys.
Then Merle Bright, 198 West Clay
avenue, reported that his Ford coupe was stolen and later abandoned in
Muskegon Heights. The boys last Sunday stole a horse and buggy
owned by Henry Carlson, a farmer,
driving it from St. Mary's church to Muskegon Heights. On Tuesday they stole an automobile owned by Clarence W. Mullen,
138 John street. It was found at Muskegon Heights. The same day another car owned by Earl
Fordham, employed at the Brunswick
plant, was stolen. The boys were brought
before the juvenile court when taken
into custody a few days ago. They were
released and went back to stealing Fords.

As automobile thieves, William

to their total yesterday, making four

according to the officers. A Ford sedan owned by Earl Eckerman, employed
at the Campbell, Wyant and Cannon
factory, was stolen yesterday by the boys.
Then Merle Bright, 198 West Clay

Muskegon Heights. The boys last Sunday stole a horse and buggy
owned by Henry Carlson, a farmer,
driving it from St. Mary's church to Muskegon Heights. On Tuesday they stole an automobile owned by Clarence W. Mullen,
138 John street. It was found at Muskegon Heights. The same day another car owned by Earl Fordham,
employed at the Brunswick plant, was
stolen. The boys were brought before the
juvenile court when taken into custody a

Who Said
Dogs to Capt. Fowler of U.S. Engineers?
Canines at Port Sherman Causing Wrecking Crew Head Much Trouble Dogs, big dogs, little dogs, tame dogs, biting
dogs, and just plain Yankee dogs seem to
be causing Capt. C.C. Fowler of the United States engineering service no end of
trouble. Capt. Fowler, standing close to
seven feet in height, has appealed to the
police, prosecutor and other officials, and the police say that the
captain has been carrying a shotgun at Port Sherman to protect his life from
the dogs. The captain, who has been
assigned to the supervision of the clearing
of the channel of the wreckage of the steamer Muskegon, was bitten by a dog a
few days ago. He spent much time about
the city hall trying to convince the
officials that it was their sworn duty to shot the dog at once. The city health officer ordered that the dog
be locked up for ten days as required by the state law and Dr. Alvin
Smith, city milk inspector, examined the
dog and says it was not mad. The
captain, however, wants the dog shot and the prosecutor and other officials
failed to satisfy him by reading the
law. Captain Fowler says that men who
have been employed by the wrecking firm have complained of the dogs and that
the animals have interfered with the work.
He says the dogs spent much of
the time at night barking. Chief Hansen
says that an investigation made by his department allows the Port Sherman dogs quite
well behaved animals. He says while he
would like to protect the captain and
even shot the dog that under the law it cannot be done.
