Lawrence A. CARL, born in Muskegon Heights, Michigan January 16, 1903; son of William J. and Julia B. (BARBER) CARL.
William J. CARL, born in Holland, Michigan, January8, 1863. He was employed as a clerk, and later, in May 1891, founded the W. J. Carl Department Store, which he operated until his death, which occurred August 7, 1934. His wife, Julia B. (BARBER) CARL, who was in born in Holland, Michigan, July 29, 1864, now resides in the Occidental Hotel in Muskegon, Michigan. William J. and Julia B. (BARBER) CARL were the parents of 1 child, Lawrence A.
Lawrence A. CARL graduated high school (Muskegon, Michigan), 1921; University of Illinois, Bachelor of Science 1926. He then was employed by the Public Service Company of Chicago, Illinois and in 1927 became manager of the grocery department of the W. J. Carl Department Store in Muskegon, Michigan of which shore he has served as proprietor and general manager, since the death of his father in 1934. Mr. CARL, who is chairman of the retail commission of the Muskegon Wholesale Company is a Republican, and a member of the following: Elks Lodge; Lions Club; C. of C.; and Citizens Historical Association (Indianapolis, Indiana). His hobbies are golf and fishing.
On June 26, 1926, Lawrence A. CARL married Charlotte S. BREMER, who was born in Madison, Wisconsin. Mrs. CARL, who is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, taught domestic science in Janesville, Wisconsin, 3 years, and in Muskegon Heights, 2 years. She is a member of the Woman’s Club in Muskegon Heights. Mr. And Mrs. CARL are the parents of 1 child, Sabra, born April 19, 1932.
