Gilbert Clark Chaddock was born in Muskegon, Michigan, May 26,1878:son of Chauncey and Elizabeth (Clark) Chaddock.

 

Chauncey Chaddock was born in Genesse County, New York, in 1833. His father, Samuel Chaddock, who was a farmer, was a life long resident of Genesse County. Chauncey Chaddock moved to Muskegon, Michigan, in 1872. He was an attorney and maintained a general practice of law, and also conducted a real estate business. At one time he was a candidate for congress. He died in 1915. His wife, Elizabeth (Clark) Chaddock, daughter of Henry and Maria M. Clark, was born in Jonesville, Michigan, in 1848. She died in 1929. Gilbert Clark Chaddock, the subject of this sketch, was the only child born to Chauncey and Elizabeth (Clark) Chaddock.

 

Gilbert Clark Chaddock attended public schools, and was graduated from Muskegon, Michigan 1897, after which he spent 4 months traveling in Europe. He then assumed charge of the real estate division of his fatherís business until 1912, at which time he purchased the insurance agency of Robert H. Minty, in Muskegon. Mr. Chaddock now is president of the company, which holds agencies for 40 insurance companies, and operates under the name, Chaddock, Winter, Mulder & Alberts, Mr. Chaddock is vice president and a director of the National Lumbermanís Bank, and the Muskegon Federal Savings & Loan Association, and is a director of The Muskegon Trust Company. He was one of the organizers of the Rotary Club in Muskegon, and served as the clubís president in 1918. He conducted a survey for the organization in the interests of promoting civic and community activity.He also served on the committee delegated to gather historical data for the Childrenís Home. Mr. Chaddock, who is independent in politics, is a member of the following: Blue Lodge, F. and A.M., and Consistory (32 delegation); Greater Muskegon Chamber of Commerce (a director); Elks Lodge; Century Club; Muskegon Country Club (president); and Muskegon Chapter, Citizens Historical Association. His favorite recreation is golf. Mr. Chaddock resides in North Muskegon.

 

On October 12, 1917, Gilbert Clark Chaddock married Helen Landt, who was born in Chicago, Illinois. Her parents, Charles and Susan (Palmer) Landt, the former of whom engaged in real estate business in Chicago, are dead. Mr. and Mrs. Chaddock are the parents of one child, Eleanor, who was born August 20, 1939.
