Notes:

A most information-packed article on the Terrell, Lynch, Clark, and allied families, titled "The Albemarle Quakers: 1742-1754" by Jay Worrall, Jr. is found on pages 25-44 in Volume 40, 1982, The Magazine of Albemarle County History. An eyewitness account of this marriage begins on page 40:

We have the record of a marriage celebrated in the month of May 1754 in the Quaker Meeting House. Charles and Sarah Lynch's blooming 17-year-old daughter, Sarah, Jr., was the bride, and one Micajah Terrell, the groom, a Quaker of Golansville Meeting in Caroline County, came to live with his relatives in Albemarle.

On their wedding day Sarah and Micajah sat at the head of the meeting attended by a little party of friends and relatives. No clergyman was present. A deep silence fell over the meeting. Presently Micajah and Sarah rose in the silence, joined their hands, looked clearly into one another's eyes, and said their promises to one another in the presence of God and the assembled company. When they had finished, various Friends spoke in prayer or in benediction as the Spirit moved them. After an hour or so, two elder Friends shook hands together to end the meeting. All rose, shook hands all round, congratulated Micajah and Sarah with smiles, kisses, joyous tears and hand shakes, and signed their marriage certificate. In this way, Micajah and Sarah Terrell began their life together.*

* A footnote in the article indicates that this information came from the Minute book of Camp Creek Friends Meeting, page 68.
