Mary Catherine Dicks

O B I T U A R Y

Mary Catherine Dicks was born July 10, 1864, in Parke county, Indiana, and departed this life December 8, 1939, at her home in Alva, Okla., at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 28 days.

She spent her childhood in Indiana, moving with her parents to Carthage, Mo. and from there to Stafford, Kansas.

At the age of 24 she was married to Dean Murrow at Stafford, Kans. To this union were born seven children, two of whom have preceded her in death. Her husband also passing away last March.

She leaves to mourn her going: four sons, Lionel R., Avard; Luther, Dacoma; Clay and Frank, Alva; one daughter, Mrs. Walter Bergersen, Capron. Also by two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Watson, Sydney, Ill.; and Mrs. Hannah Hall, Portersville, Calif., and one brother, Miles Dicks, Washington State; 15 grandchildren, foud great-grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends.

She with her husband pioneered in settling the Cherokee Strip, coming to a claim southwest of Dacoma, moving to Alva about 12 years ago.

She became a Christian in her early married life and in spite of hardships and discouragements she retained her sweet Christian experience. She was a true follower of her Lord who went about doing good. "Aunt Polly" [error - it's "Mollie"] as she was affectionately known, held a Sunday school in her home, conducted religious services, acted as mid-wife for many a mother, spoke the comforting words when the loved one was placed in the ground, prayed for the sick and taught sinners the way of righteousness.

Truly from our midst has gone one of the Lord's annointed, one that faced the task to be done and never turned aside until she had discharged her responsibility to her Master.
