Rites set for former state representative
A. L. "Lute" Murrow, former representative to the state house from this area, died at the Alva Share Medical Center Jan. 7, at the age of 86 years, one month, and 14 days.
Funeral services will be held in the Dacoma Church of God on Saturday, Jan. 10, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Carl W. Hawkins, pastor of the Alva Church of God, and the Rev. Chuck McKinney, pastor of the Dacoma Church of God, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Alva Municipal Cemetery.
Aaron Luther Murrow, the son of Mary and H. C. Dean Murrow, was born Nov. 24, 1894 in a dugout southwest of Dacoma.
He attended the Walnut Grove Rural School and was a veteran of World War I, serving in the United States Army.
On Feb. 15, 1920 at Alva, Luther was married to Miss Mildred M. Hall. To their marriage a son and daughter were born.
Following their marriage they farmed south of Alva. In 1938 [should read "1929"--1938 was the year they became sole owners of the grocery store] they moved to Dacoma and purchased a grocery store and later built a locker plant which he operated until 1958. In 1956 Lute was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives where he served for ten years.
He was a member of the Alva Church of God, the Carmen American Legion Post and had been active in the Republican party for many years.
Mr. Murrow was preceded in death by a grandson, Randy, his parents, and a brother, Clay.
A. L. (Lute) is survived by his wife, Mildred of the home in Alva, his daughter Jean (Bob) Nida of Alva, a son Dean of Enid; three grandchildren, Rob Nida of Alva, Steve Nida of Ponca City and Rod Murrow of Altus; five great-grandchildren, Matthew and Nikki Nida, Randy, Cathy and Melanie Murrow; a sister Blanche Bergerson [should read "Bergersen"] of Alva; two brothers, Lionel and Frank, all of Alva; a number of nieces, nephers, other relatives and friends.
Family has suggested contributions be made to the Randy Murrow Scholarship Fund at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in lieu of other remembrances.
Casket bearers will be Paul Murrow, Rod Murrow, Russell Murrow, Wayne Murrow, Rob Nida, and Steve Nida.
