"MOST WANTED" LIST...
to see who I am most desparate to locate information about...
To share information or make inquiries, please leave a message in the guestbook ~ the link is below. |
Popeye the Sailor said on many occasions, "I am what I am and that's all what I am." Genealogy -- family history -- getting back to my roots -- learning of my heritage -- to me is the on-going process of finding out something of what I am and of who I am (and doing the best I can to both preserve the information and distribute it freely).
I began this project in 1971 when I was living in Norman, OK, attending graduate school at the University of Oklahoma. I gleaned what information I could from my parents and my grandparents; these individuals deserve special mention, however --
- much of the information on the extended Riggs and Proffitt family history is from the considerable work done by my mother's cousin, Ina Fern (Riggs) Snyder of Amarillo, TX.
- Another cousin, Jay Ipson, has been quite helpful with the Proffitt family, as has been Cathy Smith.
- Cousin Robert Dale Murrow of California, who has a treasure-trove of information on the Murrow side of my family (including the Wallingfords, which led me to my oldest known ancestor, Nicholas Wallingford, born in England in 1619). Bob is the owner of "Murrow.com."
- Another distant cousin, Lee A. Sherrell and his wife Donna R. Sherrell, have created a marvelous website for Sherrill/Sherrell family researchers.
- "Thank you, dear cousins, for being so helpful and so willing to share our history!"
- There is no search engine for this site; click on "surnames" for the most comprehensive list of individuals found in these pages.
CLICK HERE to view a brief history of the Murrow Reunion (Descendants of James Riley and Kiturah (Asbury) Murrow.
HERE are three interesting biographies of the family of Edwin and Addie (Riggs) Taylor:
- "The First Reunion" by David Taylor, 1985
- "The Ed Taylor Homestead and Family" by Maggie Knight, 1974
- "31st Annual Taylor Family Reunion," 1976
Special thanks to Barbara Robertson for sharing much of her information on the Taylor family story.
CLICK HERE for an interesting report by Dalton W. Riggs on the occasion of the Golden Anniversary of Northwestern Normal School in Alva, OK in 1947 -- Uncle Dalt graduated with the class of 1902. Included on this page is a letter from Bird Watrus to J. W. Monfort, two of the original "team" who corroborated to assure the founding of Northwestern in Alva.
NOTE: I've chosen to protect the information on my own children and grandchildren, given the security issues that have developed in recent years.
NOTE: Due to excessive 'spam' email messages, my email address is unavailable; please leave a message in the guestbook (below).Like any evolving web page, this is a work under constant construction...it will never be completed!
Instructions:
- Standard "Ahnentafel" genealogical numbering is used throughout this collection (with minor adaptations for these pages).
- I am subject no. 1; male parents are double the number of their child; female parents are double-plus-one (my dad is 2, mom is 3; her father is 6, her mother is 7; etc., etc.); siblings are identified by letters (1a, 1b, etc.)
- Undelined/highlighted words are links to separate web pages for those persons; just click on the link and you'll be taken to that page.
- The index labeled "Home - Pedigree Chart - Surnames" is located at the bottom of each page and is a quick way to navigate between pages.
found in the list of children on a family page indicates the child that is my direct ancestor.
- CLICK HERE to go to page 1 - me.
- CLICK HERE to go to the Pedigree Chart (it's listed in numerical order rather than designed as a traditional family tree chart).
- CLICK HERE to go to Surnames.
- CLICK HERE to visit my other site,
The Little House on the Internet.
