Welcome to Murph's Family History
I hope that you find the information you find here at least of interest, if not of help to your own research. I look forward to hearing from you if your find that you are related or can fill in any gaps or correct any errors you may detect.
Background
I started tracing my family history in February 1997. On my father's (MURPHY) side of the family I did not have much to go on as my grandparents did not keep in touch with their relatives back in Ireland after they came to New Zealand in 1910. Neither my father, or any of his siblings knew of any living relative back in Ireland, and previous attempts by others of the Murphy descendants had failed to trace any living relatives back in Ireland. This despite several having visited Ireland and having placed adverts in local Irish papers looking for relatives. The best anyone had achieved was to locate my grandparent's parents and some of their siblings in the 1901 Irish Census.
On my mother's side, while nobody had tried to trace the family history before, at least some details were known by my mother and her brother and there was contact with relatives back in England.
Still there have been brick walls along the way on this side of the family too. However, with a lot of work and fortuneate meetings via the internet I have managed to piece together much of the family history, and have managed to re-establish contact with relatives back in Ireland and new found relatives in England. I am very greatful to those who have been willing to share the results of their own research where it has related to our common family interest.
Irish Research
My Irish research fo far is confined to two counties, Cork and Wexford. So fare Cork research has been centred round Passage West, with the family names of interest being: LESTER, LINEHAN and ROCHE. In Wexford, research has been round the area surrounding Gorey and Kilmuckridge with the family names of interest being DOYLE and MURPHY.
English Research
My English research is a little more widespread, but is still largely limited three counties; Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Warwickshire. The main family names of interest being: BAXTER, HOLDEN, HUNT, LEEDHAM, RICHARDSON and WHITE.
