Plotting Mischief
By Almeda Murphy Snavely

Mother was mopping the floor one day
While Albert and Lydia were busy at play
When a spirit of mischief came over the two
They would jump in the tub and see what mother would do

They solemnly promised like they do in a lodge
If mother slapped at them that they were to dodge
John stood by till the plot was done
Of course he knew there would soon be fun.

So Albert ran first and jumped in on one side
And splashed water all over the floor she had dried
Of course mother slapped at him and what do you think
Albert dodged as agreed and gave Lydia the wink.

But mother came back as good mothers do,
And instead of one slap she gave Albert two
So John got the fun and they the surprise
Which made Albert wink both of his eyes.

So Lydia decided she already knew
Just exactly what mother would do,
Now this little incident of two children's play
How little they thought would be remembered today.
