Eliza’s Delimma

By Almeda Murphy Snavely

Did you boys ever help a girl out of a wagon?
If you did and was lucky we don’t blame you for braggin’
A crowd of us young folks went to a dance one night
We went in a big wagon and got there all right.

The boys helped us out and got us safe on our feet,
All but Liza her hoops got caught on the spring seat
Her fellow held to her like a brave fellow would
‘Till some one released her as quick as they could

We got her to the house and in the back way
And took note of the damage without much delay,
We found several hoops had been displaced
And the skirt of her dress was ripped half off of the waist.

In the meantime the boys were getting anxious you bet
They all wanted to dance with their girls the first set.
With some diplomatic maneuvers we got Liza upstairs,
And the dance went on while us girls made repairs.
