Dangerous Play

By Almeda Murphy Snavely

When we were children Ike, Liza and I,
There was no place in the barn we considered to high
We would climb up the ladder to the big beam you know
And turn somersaults to the straw down below.

One day Ike thought he would turn a double,
And that’s where we got us all into trouble,
When he came down he lit on his head
And I thought for a while the young one was dead.

I tell you it gave me a terrible fright,
But I shook him and rubbed him till he was breathing all right
We made up our minds right then and there
We would turn no more somersaults up in the air.
