The Carver Co. Historical Society (CCHS) has a new On-line Newspaper
Index. The direct link to the search page for the index, which is part
of their website, is:
http://www.carvercountyhistoricalsociety.org/newspaper/search.php
Their website is: http://www.carvercountyhistoricalsociety.org
I'm extremely pleased to see their presence online and I encourage
everyone with an interest in Carver Co. to support their work. I'll be
updating the Carver Co. pages on rootsweb by removing some of the links
(rootsweb decommissioned some old surname pages) and adding links to the
CCHS web site.

I'm also a member of Athens County Historical Association, and this article
was in the newsletter received today. Thought others on this list would be
interested.
Morgan's Rain Reenactment -- September 3-7. As a celebration of the Ohio
Bicentennial, the Ohio Bicentennial commission, the Ohio 6th Union Cavalry
and Meigs and Vinton counties are producing a reenactment of Civil War
Confederate colonel John Hunt Morgan's Raid through Meigs & Vinton Counties.
On Friday Sept 5, the Chester-Shade Historical Association will be sponsoring
Morgan's encampment on the Chester Commons. Activities include the Raiders
ride into town, encampment, Civil War military ball, authentic Civil War
band, food, vendors, entertainment and more. The Ohio Bicentennial Commission
will be exhibiting artifacts and documents, handmade weapons, flags and quilt
displays at the courthouse. The public is invited.
The Chester-Shade Historical Association meets on the first Thursday of each
month at 7 pm in Ohio's oldest standing courthouse in Chester, Meigs Co.,
Ohio. The courthouse, built in 1823, has been restored and is open officially
on Mondays and Saturdays with "Volunteers on call" for special tours and
events. You will soon be able to learn more about this Appalachian Heritage
Cultural Center on their new website at www.Chestercourthouse.com
. (I tried
it and right now the web site just says -opening soon.)
This story brought back a lot of memories about a fun visit there a couple
years ago. When is the list research meeting scheduled for this year in
Pomeroy?
