I just uploaded a file of almost 2000 baptismal records from the Trinity Church in Southport, Fairfield Co., CT for the period of 1785 to 1825.  There is also a file of Episcopalians in the county who signed a petition in 1738, many of whom were later associated with the church.

If anyone is interested in Iowa train wrecks (or any other state), the DOT has an online list of their investigation of them between 1911-1966.  It is quite interesting, full of details including names, and easy to search. Taylor County
[IOWA] 1903 History of Taylor County
Date:    3/26/03 11:08:52 AM Eastern Standard Time
From:    Bare67deb@aol.com
To:    IOWA-L@rootsweb.com

TAYLOR COUNTY was created in 1847 and first attached to Pottawattamie.  It
lies on the Missouri State line in the third tier east of the Missouri River
and contains five hundred forty-eight square miles.  The surface is rolling
and the principal streams are bordered by woods.  The Platte, East Nodaway
and West One Hundred and Two rivers and many smaller streams flow through the
county in a southwesterly direction.  The name "One Hundred and Two" was
given to the river in early days by a party of surveyors who were running a
line for a military road from some point in Missouri.  The place where their
line struck this branch of the Platte was one hundred and two miles from the
starting point.
The first white family known to have settled in the county was that of Jonah
Reed who took a claim near the Page County line in 1844.  Stephen H. Parker
took a claim in the county in 1846.  In 1851 the population had reached three
hundred ninety-three and Elisha Parker was appointed to take steps to
organize a county government.  At an election held in February the following
officers were chosen:  Jacob Ross, Levi L. Hayden and Daniel Smith,
commissioners; John Hayden, clerk; H. Bennington, probate judge; John Hayden,
treasurer and recorder; and J. B. Campbell, sheriff.
Most of the early settlers lived in the southern part of the county in the
disputed territory, supposing they were in Missouri.  Although they owned no
slaves, on account of their poverty, they were strong advocates of the
system.  They lived in the rudest log cabins and subsisted on pork, corn
dodgers, whisky and coffee and such small game as the country afforded.
The first term of court was held at the cabin of Jacob Ross by Judge Sloan in
September, 1851.  The first attorney in the county was Benjamin Rector who
became a prominent lawyer.  He raised a company for the Fourth Iowa Cavalry
in the War of the Rebellion, was promoted to major, taken prisoner and died
at Helena in January, 1863.
Commissioners were appointed to locate the county-seat in 1852 and selected a
site on the west bank of East One Hundred and Two River where, by order of
the county judge, a town was laid out and named Bedford.  O. W. Tenno erected
a double log cabin, the first in the town plot, which was used for a store
and dwelling for many years.  The first newspaper in the county was
established in February, 1858, by Joseph H. Turner at Bedford and named the
Iowa South West.  The Burlington Railroad has a branch running from Creston
through Bedford and Tayor County.  The county was named for General Zachary
Taylor, the twelfth President of the United States.

Fulton County
April E-zine
Date:    3/30/03 9:55:22 PM Eastern Standard Time
From:    suzamusic@compuserve.com  (Susan Zacharias)
As of this writing, we have 88 members who are receiving this monthly ezine
of Fulton County Chapter, OGS news.
    EXPANDING OUR ANCESTRAL SEARCH
When beginning an ancestral search, studying the counties surrounding an
ancestors homestead can yield important clues to help expand ones research.
With that in mind, our next meeting on Tuesday, April 1, 2003, will feature
surrounding area county genealogical societies to speak to attendees about
their chapter, discussing research avenues in their home county, as well as
display and sell their county publications. This "County Show & Tell" will
begin at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 410 Taylor Street, Delta.
For those members who normally don't make our meetings, this would be an
excellent opportunity to learn more about the activities of other area
genealogical societies, not to mention our own.
    WEBSITE NEWS
This year, the Ohio Genealogical Society will be presenting a new award, the
OGS Thomas A. Edison Best Web Site Award.  This is a new award to be
presented for the first time at the 2003 OGS Conference in Columbus. I
recently received notification that the Fulton County Chapter website made
it to the finals. Congratulations to Mark Lozer, webmaster, for his
outstanding work on the website and best wishes in the final leg of the
competition!
    NEWSLETTER READY FOR MAIL
Karen Schoonover has been hard at work to produce the first newsletter under
her helm. The newsletter is smaller than what she originally expected due to
printing problems, but it has been printed and will be going out in the mail
shortly.
    VOLUNTEERS FOR TABLE AT CONFERENCE
The Fulton County Chapter will be having a table at the 2003 OGS Conference
in Columbus, April 24-26. Mitch and Karen Schoonover will be the main
volunteers at the table, but they will need help Thursday night and
Saturday. If you are going to the conference and are able to help man our
table, please let the officers know to work out schedules. If you have been
debating whether to go or not, the deadline for pre-registration is April 4.
Brochures will be available Tuesday night, or can be downloaded online at
www.ogs.org.
In addition, the Franklin County Genealogical & Historical Society are
looking for volunteers to man the Death Certificate booth and also as room
monitors for all the sessions being held. Volunteer time may be scheduled in
two-hour blocks for a total of four hours, and the person would be allowed
to attend sessions outside of that time free of charge.  Anyone can
volunteer by calling Ken Poling at 800-438-0783 day or evening for further
info.  If anyone would like to go, but not sure they can afford it, this
might be a deal. (Thanks to Kathy Seigneur for this bit of information!)
    COOKBOOK
Brenda Woodling, chair of the cookbook project, has recently informed me
that the cookbooks are now in transit and hopefully should be available
Tuesday night. The cookbooks will sell for $8. Remember, members receive a
10% discount on all chapter publications. This is an excellent book to give
as a gift for Easter or Mother's Day.
    UPCOMING ELECTIONS
This year, we will be electing officers for the positions of Vice President
and Recording Secretary. A nominating committee will need to be formed at
the Tuesday meeting to begin looking for candidates. Following are the
officer duties for the two positions from our bylaws:
Section 8.02 The Vice President shall:
1. Preside in absence of President.
2. Shall be chairperson of the Program committee.
3. Shall be in charge of special projects the Chapter has chosen to pursue.
4. Succeed to the office of the President for the unexpired term in the
event of death, incapacity or resignation of the President.
5. Serve as an Executive Board member.
Section 8.03 The Recording Secretary shall:
1. Record and preserve minutes of all meetings of the Chapter, Executive
Board and special meetings and see that they are properly filed in the
minute book.
2. The Recording Secretary shall also serve as Second Vice President.
3. Serve as an Executive Board member.
Both these terms will be for a period of two years. This would certainly be
an wonderful opportunity to learn more about the inner workings of the
society as well as to serve the membership. This committee must be formed on
Tuesday night. We need three members willing to gather a slate of candidates
for these positions. If you are interested in serving on this committee or
interested in one of these positions, please let me know.
We will also need to form an auditing committee as well.
    MEETING AGENDA
If there is anything needed to be brought to the attention of the
membership, and/or committee members, if you have anything to report at the
Tuesday meeting, please let me know before Monday night so I may add you to
the agenda. One of my goals as president is to run a shorter, more effective
business meeting.
Hope to see you at Tuesday night's meeting,
Sue Zacharias

November 13, 1884 - The Elyria Republican

LECTURE - Miss Susan B. Anthony delivered a very impressive and forcible
lecture to a highly intelligent audience, at the opera-house, on Tuesday
evening.  Her subject, "Woman wants bread, not the ballot," was admirably
handled, but as we understood the drift of her argument it was that woman
wanted and was entitled to both.  Though we cannot say that we entirely
agreed with all her views, we confess that her remarks generally were clear,
concise, and forcible, and she gave good reasons why the intelligent
womanhood of America should have an opportunity to maintain her rights of
citizenship by the ballot.  As a defender and advocate of the XVIth amendment
Miss Anthony is an able speaker.
